Captain Thomas Simonds

Marine Officer Instructor

Captain Thomas B. Simonds is a native of California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2004,
and subsequently completed recruit training and the Basic Combat Engineer Course. As a
Combat Engineer, he served with several units, and deployed in support of Operations Iraqi
Freedom and Enduring Freedom. In 2008 he was selected for the Marine Enlisted
Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) where he attended
University of Idaho.

Upon graduation in 2012, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Following The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course, he reported to 3d Battalion, 5th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California. With 3/5, he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander with Company I, and a Combined Anti-Armor Team (CAAT) Platoon Commander with CAAT-I, Weapons Company. 1stLt Simonds deployed in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Unit Deployment Program-West 16.1 to the Pacific Region. In June 2016, he was assigned to the NROTC unit at the University of Wisconsin where he currently serves as Marine Officer Instructor.
